Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between GST Inclusive and Exclusive?
GST Exclusive means the price stated does not yet include tax, so GST is added on top. GST Inclusive means the listed price already contains the tax amount, and the base price must be reverse-calculated.
When are CGST and SGST applied instead of IGST?
For intra-state transactions (where seller and buyer are in the same state or UT), GST is divided equally into Central GST (CGST) and State GST (SGST). For inter-state supply (different states), Integrated GST (IGST) is applied in full.
How is GST calculated when adding tax?
The GST amount is calculated as: GST Amount = (Taxable Value × GST Rate) / 100. The total invoice value is Taxable Value + GST Amount.
How is base price extracted when removing GST?
The base taxable value is calculated as: Taxable Value = (Gross Amount × 100) / (100 + GST Rate). The total GST is the difference between Gross Amount and Taxable Value.
What are the standard GST tax slabs in India?
India's primary tax slabs are 0% (exempted essentials), 5%, 12%, 18%, and 28% (luxury/sin items). Additional special rates include 0.25% for rough stones and 3% for gold and jewellery.
Does this calculator store or transmit financial data?
No. All calculations are executed completely inside your web browser using client-side JavaScript. No data is saved to a server or shared externally.
Can I calculate GST for Union Territories (UTGST)?
Yes. For Union Territories without an independent legislature, UTGST applies in place of SGST at the exact same half-split rate as CGST.
